CONSTRUCTION
SHELTERS
COVER
After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there was an increased need to build and equip shelters, bunkers, bomb shelters and security rooms to protect civilians and military personnel from possible dangers and attacks. Therefore, our company began to pay more attention to the design, construction of new and reconstruction of existing protective structures and premises and their subsequent finishing and arrangement with the necessary equipment and furniture of our own production Recast Plastic using recycled plastic. With the entry into force of November 1, 2023 5:2023 “CIVIL PROTECTION STRUCTURES”, we carefully take into account the basic provisions for the design of protective structures for civil protection and dual-use structures (DPP).
Protective buildings are designed for temporary or permanent residence of people in the event of danger or disaster. There are various types of shelters that can be used in such situations (Prefabricated prefabricated reinforced concrete and metal structures or permanent structures):
1. Bomb Shelter: This shelter is designed to protect against bombing and air attacks. They can be built as underground structures or have concrete structures above ground.
2. Radiation Shelters: These shelters are designed to protect against radiation exposure after nuclear attacks or radioactive release events. They can be underground or built on the surface and have special layers of protection.
3. Dual-use structures – Protected premises/simple shelters: these can be specially equipped buildings or parts of buildings that have reinforced walls, roofs and other protective elements to protect against various types of hazards. These structures are primarily designed and adapted for their primary purpose. They can be both above-ground and underground (subway, parking lots, etc.).
In protective structures and dual-use structures, main and auxiliary premises are provided.
- The main ones include premises in which people are expected to stay for a long time, first of all: premises for the hidden population, control points, first-aid posts, and in the storage facilities of medical institutions - also surgical dressing rooms, preoperative sterilization rooms, and others.
- Auxiliary premises include premises in which long-term stay of people is not provided, in particular: filter ventilation rooms (FVP), sanitary facilities, protected diesel power plants (DPP), electrical switchboards, food storage rooms, pumping station.
The specificity of shelter design is to take into account various factors and requirements for such structures. Here are some basic features of shelter design:
- Protection from threats: Shelter design must take into account the specific threats that may occur in the area. This may include bombings, missile attacks, nuclear explosions, radiation risks and other hazards.
- Geographical conditions: Terrain, soil depth, hydrological conditions and other factors must be taken into account when choosing a construction site and type of shelter.
- Durability and Strength: Shelters must be designed to withstand the effects of blasts, landslides, radiation exposure and other hazards.
- life support systems: Shelters must have built-in power supply, water supply, ventilation and other necessary communications systems to ensure safety and comfort during a long stay of people in them. ~Efficient Space Organization: The shelter space should be organized in such a way as to make maximum use of the available space to accommodate people and necessary materials.
- Safety: Shelters should be designed with safety and evacuation requirements in mind in case of emergency.
- Specialized needs: Some shelters may have special requirements to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities, small children, animals, etc.
In general, shelter design is a complex process that requires an integrated approach and specialized knowledge in many fields, including engineering, architecture, security and others.
Based on the territorial location of our company, more orders come to us from Kyiv and the region. But we carry out design and finishing work throughout Ukraine, taking into account the safety of our employees.
Most often, we are asked to improve or restore existing shelters for civilians.
Reconstruction of simple shelters may include a number of measures to improve their efficiency and safety. Here are some of them:
1. Strengthening the structure: If shelters have weak or damaged structures, reconstruction may include strengthening the walls, roof and floors to provide greater strength and stability.
2. Improved Ventilation: An improved ventilation system can improve the air quality in the shelter and provide better living conditions for people.
3. Updating water systems: If shelters have water systems, they can be updated or replaced to ensure continued access to drinking water.
4. Providing Power Supply: Adding or improving electrical systems can provide constant power to the shelter, which is important for providing lighting and operating other electrical devices.
5. Improving Communications: Installing communication equipment such as radio or telephone can improve communication between the shelter and the outside world.
6. Improved sanitation and hygiene: Adding sanitation facilities and waste management systems can improve hygienic conditions in the shelter.
7. Improved protection against radiation and chemicals: If shelters are located in areas with a high risk of radiation or chemical contamination, measures can be taken to improve protection against these threats, such as the use of special materials or filtration systems.
These activities can be carried out taking into account limited resources and available technical capabilities.
Repair and finishing work in existing old shelters may include the following actions:
Roof Replacement or Repair: Conduct a roof inspection and determine the need for roof replacement or repair to prevent leaks and water leaks.
Wall and Floor Repair: Checking the condition of walls and floors for damage, cracks, moisture or rot and making appropriate repairs or replacement of materials.
Electrical Refresh: Test electrical systems for safety and efficiency, replacing outdated wires, outlets and switches, and installing new items that meet current safety standards.
Improved Ventilation: Installing or improving a ventilation system to ensure a healthy and comfortable shelter environment.
Painting work: Painting walls and ceilings, removing moisture, erosion and other damage, as well as painting the cover to improve the appearance and protect surfaces.
Door and Window Replacement: Check the condition of doors and windows and repair or replace them to improve the energy efficiency and safety of your shelter.
Lighting: Install or update a lighting system to ensure adequate brightness and safety of the shelter.
Sanitary work: Repair or replacement of plumbing products, insulation and laying of floors, as well as other work aimed at improving the sanitary conditions of the shelter.
These works help maintain and improve the functionality, safety and comfort of the old shelter.
Our company offers a full range of services for the design, construction, finishing and arrangement of bomb shelters from consultation and design to support during construction; from carrying out repair and finishing work to furnishing furniture and necessary equipment.
A significant difference between our company is that, if necessary, we complete the shelter with furniture of our own production from our Recast Plastic division. Furniture made from recycled plastic has significant benefits: it helps recycle plastic waste, reduces the burden on the environment and conserves natural resources, making it an environmentally sustainable choice. In addition, such furniture is highly resistant to external factors (moisture, bacteria, mechanical stress), which makes it ideal for use in various conditions, including shelters. Our furniture meets all state standards and has the appropriate certificates. We begin all design or repair work with a study of the object, discussion of all the customer’s wishes and a careful calculation of the estimate. We work under a contract, observing all standards and deadlines.
Experienced engineers offer unique and effective solutions for designing the comfort of
a safe environment in the simplest shelters and bomb shelters.
